Photographer's Note
Having lived and studied ... as well as held a Vice President's position at a leading Chinese university, I was so very fortunate to travel throughout China. I had photographed thousands of works (early digital and more recent ones) ... but only recently have I reviewed them for submission to TE. I have been doing Europe these past months, and I am not sure if Chinese photos have as much interest here. So I plan to post some ... or parts of China not often seen by outsiders.
Tourists get a good chance to see the Great Wall. It is almost always part of the wall that has been reconstructed, gaining a look of completeness and ... looks nice.
I wanted to see the wall ... as it really is. Worn down and in disrepair. This view is of the real wall. It is slowly being absorbed by the environment and returning to a more natural reclaimed state.
This is part of the Great Wall of China and I think it is wonderful as it is. This view is from the Mutianyu Great Wall section. Has a chair lift that takes you to the top if you don't want to take the tough climb on foot.

Hi David ,
Nice to see a photograph from this part of the world and a view of the Great Wall that we in the western world would not see that often. This is a good example of how nature reclaims the land through time. Good POV colour lighting and sharpness culminating in a very nice presentation.
Regards
Arthur.

Hello David,
You don't mention which part of the Great Wall this is. It can be interesting for future visitors.
In 1999 I visited Simatai on a day trip from Beijing.
There was a well restored part of the wall and a larger part that was not restored at all. I chose the latter to explore.
But it wasn't easy at all. I needed more than an hour to cover only a short distance. Finally it was time to go back down to take the bus to Beijing. But I was late and the bus had left on time. Fortunately there was still a place available in another bus with visitors.
The difficult walk, more a climb, over the wall has always been a very nice memory.
I think that the part of the wall that you show us here is even more difficult to walk on.
Nevertheless, it offers a good view of the fantastic construction and it makes us think about the difficult task of the construction workers at the time.
Best regards, Paul
