Bakong is an interesting stepped temple, even if not spectacular, but then it is the oldest in the region, built from sand stone in the 9th century.
A Wikipedia article suggests that it is very similar to Borobudur in Java but having been there as well the comparison is hopeful at best (just the stepped design maybe).
The main photo shows the temple.
In the WS is an elephant that has lost its trunk and a photo of a small tower under maintenance.

Hello Ian,
A typical cambodia ruins, yet superbly sharp photo with a sense of its size and depth to the composition.
Good afternoon,

Pozdrav.
Lepa stara arhitektura, dobro pokazana sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, dobrim tekstom i uhvacenim trenutkom sa belim oblacima.
Lep deo hrama i fotografija.
Zelim vam sve najbolje.

Hello Ian,
I have been to Borobudur and I see little resemblance with this. But it's a nice temple anyway and impressively old. Both WS are interesting too, and it was a relief that it wasn't any of the real elephants that had lost its trunk.
You were absent for a couple of days so I was worried your house might have been flooded.

Gert

Hello Ian,
Lots of lovely, sharp details on all your photographs. The stepped design can be found in Mexico and S. America so it isn't good enough to suggest similarities just because of that.
When I aw your elephant sculpture it made me wonder, at what point did people recognise that they could train these huge (if delightful) animals for work, rather than eating them!
Thanks for the lovely photos,
Bev :-)

Hello Ian,
Wow, this temple has incredible similarities to the one of Pre Rup. A stepped temple built from sandstone with huge (damaged) statues of elephants. On your main photo I can even spot the lion statues on top around the highest tower.
There will of course be more similarities between the temples in Angkor, but when I saw these photos I was first convinced that this was Pre Rup.
After visiting Angkor, Beng Mealea and Wat Banan, I felt like I needed to see other monuments than Khmer temples. But your pictures make me dream of more similar ruins.
I still can't believe some travellers only stay in Angkor for one day.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Ian,
The site is impressive. The point of view is showing the details of the temple. The light is bringing out the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian, three interesting shots from Bakong.
It is interesting to see how much of the temple complex remains standing.
This is a nicely balanced composition.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Ian,
It is a really impressive temple, especially with that beautiful tower in the middle. The gentle sunlight was wonderful as well and revealed the details nicely.

Hi Ian
Only around 200 mm in north Brisbane but 500 mm on Mt Tamborine and more in the Gold coast Hinterland. 7 rivers with flood warnings. http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/flood/seast.shtml
I have been to this temple and probably loaded a shot of it on TE.

Hello Ian.
Very interesting photo of the remains of this temple, without a doubt the most spectacular and best preserved is the kind of tower of the sanctuary.
Very well done. Love it.
Have a great day.
Very best regards.
