Photographer's Note

Each night tourists, especially those trying for "the" sunset photo of Angkor Wat, are herded out of the compound as workers layout the lighting in the lower galleries and along the walkway from the West Gate. Then, at 7PM and for a $15 ($7.50 for Cambodians) ticket you can re-enter the compound.

Not everything and everywhere is lit, but what is is almost magical. The wall carvins in particular are much easier to see and appreciate, especially as the 3 hour evening opening isn't highly publicised. The lack of crowds is wonderful.

The night I was there there were people doing traditional dances on the small temple walls and young men were practicing their marching and sword/spear work for a future show.

In addition to the "lights only" access to the compound there is a dinner and show on the east side of the temple.
