The Gomphu Kora lhakang (Gom Kora for short) is located picturesquely next to the Kulong Chhu river a few kilometers out of Chazam, a bit further up the road to Trashi Yangtse. The lhakang was erected here, since it was one of the many places where the legendary Guru Rimpoche came to meditate, and like in other holy places he also left an impression in the rock.

The climate in eastern Bhutan differs quite a bit from the western provinces, which can be concluded from the dusty, often treeless hills surrounding the highway. The vegetation is not as lush as in the west, and as a consequence the roads are more susceptible to damage from landslides. To counter this threat there are several worker's camps dotted along the main highways across the country, most of the workers typically being Indian nationals.
