Photographer's Note

I dedicate this upload to Craig (macjake) as he mentioned, while critiquing one of my previous uploads, that he would like to see the interior of a Wakhan house. Craig, your wish has been granted. :-) I visited three houses like this during my trip, each for a different reason (one I was spontaneously invited into, I will write about it later). This one was located in the village of Qazideh, a few hours' drive from Eshkashim. The house is adjacent to a guesthouse where we stopped for lunch.

I wrote a lot about the tourist infrastructure in this part of Afghanistan, in particular about accommodation, here:

If the rooms I stayed in count as "basic" I don't know what to call the homes local Afghans live in. Let me just say that the standard is much lower than that of tourist accommodation. This is the kitchen, always with a big stove in the middle. Apart from that there are a few bedrooms, with simple wooden beds and no other furniture. Needless to say no bathroom in any shape or form.

I'm afraid the quality of this image is not great, the light was really challenging so I had to use high ISO and large aperture.

In WS a couple of photos taken in the Qazideh guesthouse.
