Photographer's Note
Our second Plan A was to land on Penguin Island since the first plan A was to land on Turret Point but do to heavy swells we needed to switch our planned itinerary. The Zodiac ride to Penguin Island was long and choppy due to large waves. Penguin Island is an oval shaped ice free island located off the south coast of King George Island in the South Shetland Archipelago. The island's most prominent feature is the 594 feet Deacon Peak which is a dormant volcano. We climbed to view the crater of the volcano but didn't climb to the highest point.
I saw the following fauna: Brown skua and on the beach was a Southern Elephant Seal. I also saw an Antarctic Fur Seal swimming along the shoreline.
