Photographer's Note
This is a nightscape viewing from Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building South observation deck at 202 meters off the ground. Use of cameras is permitted, but tripods are forbidden.
The moment that the brightness of the sky balances well with the lights of city is only two or three minutes, at around 30 minutes after sunset.
This is one of 56 shots taken putting the camera (Yes we Canon!) on a
window frame with AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing) at -2/3, 0, +2/3.
A windy weekday in December or early in January is good for taking photos of nightscape here. The office buildings offer a lot of lights at weekdays, north winds sweep the sky clean.
The buildings on the image from left to right are;
Shinjuku Sumitomo Building (Constructed:1974, Roof:210.3m), Shinjuku Mitsui Building (1974, 225m), Shinjuku Center Building (1979, 223m), Keio Plaza Hotel (1971, left:178m right:138m),
and behind them;
Shinjuku Nomura Building (1978, 209m), Sompo Japan Head Office Building (1976, 200m), Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower (2008, 203.65m).
The WS indicates accurately the names of the buildings.

Hi Hisashi,
Tokyo is a very large and crowded city, not a place i would like to live, but seeing your picture i can only bow to this great result. Thanks to you 5D (Yes We Can-on) you got a lot of clarity and detail even more enhanced by that little wide angle devil. A great view resulting in this great shot. 6 seconds exposure looks great in light but also that touch of blue on top looks wonderful.

Henk

Hello Hisashi,
It was worth to wait from your last post, this one is eye catching with a very good balance between the urban lights and the sky still blue and because of the cleaness of the air allowing to see very far in the background.
Very good composition also thanks to the use of the high buildings in foreground.

Hi Hisashi. A testimony to the ingenuity of Man. A forceful urban image filled with structures, light and colour.Nicely composed with the three imposing buildings on the left aligned along one plane and the two on the right along another, creating both a sense of harmony and dynamism. Impressive. Regards. Klaudio.

Hi Hisashi,
Yes you Canon !!!
I agree with you there is nothing better than a clean and clear winter sky to look good on a photo, and the overall rendering of this image is very clean as well, did you assemble the 3 bracetted shots here ? Light sources are diverse but very well controlled.
Have a nice day JY

hello Hisashi
This is very impressive resolution from your FL17mm and the 6s exposure really covers good sharpness and clarity of the city skyline. The composition is good even using the window frame as support for this. Sometimes it is really puzzling why they disallow a tripod?
Do you work in this building?

Bonjour, cher Hisashi,

Hello Hisashi-san
Such pristine sharpness on the buildings is amazing. The time of the shot with the blue hour sky has been done to perfection within the narrow window of 2-3 minutes. Superb exposure control & the bracketing also brings control to the various light sources. Excellent!
Best Regards

Hisashi,
again my compliments for a 6 seconds shot without tripod. An excellent result. The moment, I agree, for this sort of picture, is the one that mantains the sky intense blue. Very good work.

Fantastic urban landscape, thanks to the wide angle we can enjoy the view on the tall buildings and the streets as well. As for the yet blue sky, your timing was perfect! I really like that we can only see buildings in the distance till the horizon.

hello Hisashi,
you are a master of nightscapes, no question about that. I am very VERY impressed with the quality here, every single details is clear and sharp, every single light exposed just right. the result looks like a swarm of some glowing beetles, and I have to say I like a lot the slight wide angle distortion, I find it creates an impression that the structures have actually GROWN from the ground. excellent work, I like it a lot.
regards,
Kristine

Hisashi, well the results are awesome especially considering the tripod restriction. It looks like one of the opening scenes from Blade Runner. Very fine capture and the note makes it even more so.

Hi Hisashi,
very attractive composition in terms of colours (the blue of the sky has a very particular and pleasant tone, and so the greenish and orange of the streets) and volumes (the horizon is perfectly straight, while the perspective distortion is noticeable only at the extreme border of the frame).
The overall lighting is probably higher that that perceiped by our eyes in reality, but this is the strongest feature of the best nightshots, as this is.
Congratulations indeed, Dario.

Hello dear Hisashi,
Just one of many great shots in your gallery. Terrific work, wetting our appetite to visit Japan. And it's pretty high on that list of places to go already!
Great cityscape shot, wonderful horizon, the city like a microcosmos below.
