Photographer's Note
To continue with my series on Nantes, I chose this photo today in anticipation of the approaching summit of Copenhagen about Global warming!
I had kept this image in my picture box with the thought of adding it to Morac's theme: "Velib, Velo'v...". So today I found it appropriate to share it with you!
Different cities of Europe have adopted this way of helping people not to use their car wherever they go! You put a coin in the counter and you can have the bike for a certain amount of time, and leave it at any station in Nantes.
After an experiment of 2-3years, it would be nice to collect different opinions from people who have used it!
This station is also situated on the island of Nantes, and I took the photo, as we were coming back from our ride on the elephant (See my pic 119.)
The city has decided to call their bikes "Bicloo". "Biclou" is a slang word in French for "bike". They came into use in the spring of 2008, and I have had a chance of using them. Quite handy !

Il sont beaux lorsqu'ils sont neufs ces vélos,mais très vite le vandalisme fait des ravages,je le vois à Paris dans certains quartiers,c'est une catastrophe d'indiscipline.
Belle perspective orangée.

Hé je suis déconnecté de Nantes je ne savais même pas que maintenant il y a des vélos en libre service! Oui amusante la diagonale de orange.
Bon à Nantes j'ai eu une mauvaise expérience entre mon vélo et une voiture :-).
Mais faire du vélib' en été à Paris à 3H du matin, c'est très agréable.

Me gusta mucho esta foto por la secuencia de bicicletas y la profundidad de la misma, fue un exlente angulo y me gusta el ambiente que hay en este lugar es muy industrial y con mucho que ver con el cmabio climatico, exlente promocion patra hacer algo por nuetsro planeta.

Hello MarieLouise.
I like this line of public bikes - they are more colourful than the ones in Paris, which look like an Army distribution. The line of bikes makes a good diagonal in your picture, but there are other elements to like - such as the interesting looking wall behind them with areas of crimson colour, and the shadows. Nice work, and great note!

l'idea è originale. Avevo fatto anche io una foto simile quando ad Agosto sono stato a Roma, ma poi chissà perchè ho desistito dal postarla.
Al momento sono più portato alle foto astratte e architettoniche.
Buona la gestione della luce.
Non farci aspettare un mese per la prossima foto!!!

Je les trouve plus attrayants que les vélib parisiens, sans doute la couleur, et en meilleur état apparemment... Rouler en voiture dans le centre de Nantes n'étant pas une sinécure, c'est ce que je m'en rappelle, l'idée de ce transport écolo n'est pas la plus mauvaise des solutions à condition que tout le monde y mette du sien dans la cohabitation. En tous les cas joli cadrage de cette perspective de vélos rutilants, bien vu Marie-Louise.

noto con piacere (anche dalle mie gite in Europa) che l'utilizzo della bicicletta si va affermando sempre di più: un ottimo sistema per mantenersi in forma e liberare le città dallo smog.
Purtroppo in Italia la "cultura" dell'automobile la fa ancora da padrona.

Of course the strong orange diagonal is what catches my eye!
Free bike is a good idea and helps to reduce city traffic, been used for many years in Trondheim now and it seems to be a popular offer...
An interesting composition with a strong impact, thanks to three features - the diagonals, the orange colour and the repetition effect!

Excellente prise de vue de ces "bicloo" en perspective !
C'est vrai qu'ils sont beaux ces vélos, mais qu'en sera-t-il dans six mois (malheureusement, certaines personnes ne respectent rien ! sur Paris, le constat est accablant !)

Je suppose que tu as été atterrée par les résultats se ce sommet. Les gouvernants n'ont pas osé prendre les décisions qui pourraient sauver la planète, il faut espérer que la pression des peuples les fera très vite revenir sur leurs positions. Belle photo de ces biclous bien alignés qui attendent de servir !

Donc voici l'équivalent nantaisdes Vélib's. L'avantage du support anti-vol est de fournir une parfaite rangée et les garde-boues oranges donnent de la couleur.

I believe your post with so good picture of the environmentally friendly vehicles and the story about their using is a good contribution into reducing global warming. nice perspective and POV of these public bicycles with the name strange name Biclou.I have read that public bicycles in Paris, were not successful experiment, because of the large vandalisms,as the robberies of the bicycles too, consistently their fixing were so expensive.

Il était possible de faire un readrage sélectif sur le sujet.
En fait c'est le même modèle utilisé dans diverses villes de France dont Orléans où la couleur est verte.
