Photographer's Note

The association of mid-February with Love and Fertility dates back to the Antiquity.
--In Greek Athens, the period going from mid-January to mid-February was dedicated to the sacred union of Zeus and Hera.
--In early Middle Ages, mid-February used to be the celebration of lone people, and not of loving couples. On the day, the young ladies would hide around their villages, waiting for the young bachelors to find them.
After this giant Hide-and-seek game, the newly-formed couples were to marry before the end of the year!
That's why I chose to post the wedding photo of this loving young couple.

Tu as choisi une photo bien appropriée pour la Saint Valentin. Un mariage c'est encore une cérémonie qui fait rêver et qui pour beaucoup donne le départ d'une nouvelle vie. J'aime cette photo qui semble volée et qui est bien loin des photos traditionnelles de mariage.

A wonderful picture of this loving couple. The lighting is very good and the composition is perfect. Your timing when capturing them was perfect. I wonder what she is saying to him. The body language of his forehead seems to indicate that he is a bit surprised or concerned. I guess that it might have to do with they wish that everything will be perfect on their happy day. I am sure that her worries were needlessly and that it actually was a perfect day. TFS and have a nice evening!

Dear Marie Louise,
It is good to see the young couple more interested in each other than in the camera. The long shadows are a valuable contribution to the composition, otherwise the expanse of gravel would be rather dull. The photographer's shadow made me smile :)

The Valentine's Day in Portugal is a recent commercial thing. Traditionally weddings season is in warmer months.

Hi Marie Louise,
This is a very fine photo of a very happy moment. Your POV and composition are lovely. What I appreciate the most about this is your light management. It is so easy for digital cameras to blow out the white areas when there is a lot of darker colors around. You have managed to avoid it. Now here is the million dollar question: Did you do something special to avoid it or is your camera's better than average automatic exposure control?
