Photographer's Note
A view of the city gate in Eisenach in Germany. To the left stands the Nikolaikirche to the right the Nikolaitor.
Eisenach is a town in Thuringia, Germany with 42,000 inhabitants, located 50 kilometres (31 miles) west of Erfurt, 70 km (43 miles) south-east of Kassel and 150 km (93 miles) north-east of Frankfurt. It is the main urban centre of western Thuringia and bordering north-eastern Hessian regions, situated near the former Inner German border. A major attraction is Wartburg castle, which has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1999.
Eisenach was an early capital of Thuringia in the 12th and 13th centuries. Saint Elizabeth lived at the court of the Ludowingians here between 1211 and 1228. Later, Martin Luther came to Eisenach and translated the Bible into German. In 1685, Johann Sebastian Bach was born here. During the early-modern period, Eisenach was a residence of the Ernestine Wettins and was visited by numerous representatives of Weimar classicism like Johann Wolfgang Goethe. In 1869, the SDAP, one of the two precursors of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) was founded in Eisenach.

hello Stephen,
Good quality for this scan from slide. Nice view from Eisenach, the birthplace of Bach. Interesting town, so rarely visited by TE-members. (this is sixth photo, two were mine :)). Have you also photos from Wartburg?
Warm regrads Malgo

hi Stephen,
That's a dark building, and by dark I mean like something from a dark story. I can imagine how imposing this would have been to visitors of the city in its day when it served as a city gate, both oppressive and imposing. Very impressive place. Love the dark colors against the great blue of the sky too.
Thanks as always
Noel

Ciao. Stephen
nonostante l'età e la scansione, la foto ha reagito molto bene ed è ancora molto bella.
Molto bella e particolare questa porta merlata che unisce chiesa e torre.
Ottima nota e bella condivisione.
Buona giornata

Hello Stephen,
Nice view of the tower and the gate. The clear blue sky is contrasting the buildings very well. The details you have captured on these walls is very good for a scanned photo. Like the tight framing/cropping to leave out other details. Thanks for sharing a nice one.

Bonjour, cher Stephen,
Une photographie de 1993, époque où l'argentique régnait en maître. Heureusement que l'on peut faire revivre le passé grâce à la technologie.
Félicitations pour le travail de numérisation.
L'intérêt du sujet est manifeste.
Amitiés.

Hello Stephen,
Another slide shot which has worked well. I wonder if it has changed at all since you took this shot. I would imagine, not much, we seem to be getting better at protecting our heritage.
It is certainly an interesting historical wall. We can see how imposing the gate tower was! A very good reminder of how unsafe it used to be and how communities needed to keep enemies at bay by means of a secure wall.
You had a lovely day when you took this shot.
The textural details are well captured, whilst you have used good guide lines to direct viewers.
Have a great day,
Bev :-)

On voit que tu t'amuses beaucoup avec ton scanner ces derniers temps. Celle-ci ne date pas d'hier et pourtant les détails ressortent encore bien.

The black old stones reminded me of Trier's Roman gate with the same texture, Stephen, The Porta Nigra.
A wonderful olds stuff, scanned superbly from your slide. At 12:00 hour precisely.
good evening,
Ike

Hello Stephen,
the stone structures look fascinating, mysterious and imposing. The bright blue sky sets them off superbly, their details and textures are so intriguing. You captured a great tonal range on them and the contrast with the homogeneous backdrop is stunning. I like this picture very much not only for its interesting theme but also because it reminds me of old postcards that would overshadow all the others on the stand. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,
Ourania

Gidday dear Stephen
It seems you're getting nostalgic for your old travels. The scan has resulted well and the composition, colour and subject matter are all very beautiful. Nice choice the vertical, tight framing. I love this ancient architecture, so very characteristic.
Have a happy Friday, thanks for sharing

Morning Stephen,
Interesting old one from your past collection of slide film. I am intrigued to see what appears to be a church right on a city gate? Great blue sky against this splendid architecture and old stone of the buildings. Another one you have loving digitalized so well so we may see these places years ago.
We are still having so much rain, just wishing for some sunshine.
Have a pleasant weekend.
Cheers,
Iain.

Bonsoir Stephen,
The city gate is impressive. The poiunt of view is showing witb precision the détails and colours of the architecture of the city gate and of the tower. The good luminosity is making the colours to stand out. Have a nice day.
