Photographer's Note
Another photo I took at the Monte Casino Bird Gardens: Grey (Southern) Crowned Crane: (Balaerica regalorum) 105-112cm.
Its habitat is marshes, dams and adjoining grassland. It gives a trumpeting flight call, 'may hemm', and a deep 'huum huum' when breeding.
Shot was taken at 500mm, using aperture priority and underexposing by -1.0EV due to bright light conditions.

What a great crane and sure with many details different from the cranes I happen to see up here some seldom times in May when they trek north. The little underexposure works well and the details are just impressive. Very good Henry

I like it. Colors are so distinct, composition, graphical. I like the soft brown background of ypur last animal shots. This one is very good.

I like the sharpness and detail on the photo and as with the flamingo, underexposing this bird was very effective. Judging by your photos, the bird park is worthwile visiting.

Gorgious..even if slightly overexposed under the eye. How do you manage to have always the perfect colour in your background to match your subjects????? What a series Henry, what a series..!

Wonerful bird, and excellent shot, Henry. Besides the colors, the sharpness and the dof, there is an amazing crop and a very good position of the bird's body and "haircut". Very very well done.

Again a distinctive bird portrait from you Henry, so rich in colors and detail. Very impressive "hairdo" that the bird has, and a stunning rendition of the features in the bird's head. Again perfectly captured against a blurred brownish background. Well done!
