Photographer's Note
This is the notorious black mamba found in Southern Africa, he is not the most venomous snake around drop for drop, that title goes to the boom slang (tree snake) but he is the most aggressive snake around and responsible for most snake related deaths in Africa. This is only a juvenile but is just as dangerous as his adult counterpart. The black mamba gets its name from the black lining in its mouth. This little guy is displaying a "hood" that mambas do possess.
a bite from this guy will lead to death in under four hours.

Hello, Lee,
what an incredible shot. I have seen these snakes only recently on TV and thought the guy was NUTS for going near it. Excellent POV, great light and color, nice clear detail. I wondered what kind of lens you used to shoot this and saw you used a 300mm. Think I would, too. If not a telescope. LOL Thanks for a great shot and have a fine weekend.

Hi Lee,
I don't know what to write in this one here.. I believe the fear of capturing this makes this shot admirable, and I mean fear for the viewers since you were knowing what you were doing as a snake handler.
I've captured a snake once with almost the same equipment like yours.
I've set up a tripod next to the river when I saw an amazing nature scene. A snake drinking watter, I managed to take 3 shots then it went off. I saw even its tongue and I suppose thats how it felt me and hide fastly. I was almost 3-4 meters away from it, but the scene I saw from the viewfinder, I felt like I was nearby the amazon capturing dangerous creatures for National Geographic, haha.
Anyway, congratulations for this shot. Great POV/DOF framing.
And take care from that dangerous sport my frend.
Regards
Stelios
