Photographer's Note

My friends and I went fishing in Durban Harbour very early in the morning..the weather took a turn for the worse the night before, but we went anyway and I managed to capture some interesting light coming through the clouds. It almost looks like something from War of the Worlds! The sky was very forboding and the lighting wasn't great so keeping a steady hand was hard work. What I liked about this sky was the depth of the clouds and how I felt insignificant in the greater scheme of things as I took the shot. I tried to capture that in this picture..not sure if I did though. I think it helps to look at the picture from further away.
Anyway...We caught a few small fish and felt the cold. Thank God for thermas flasks and good tea ;)

A very brief background to Durban Harbour:

Durban Bay or "Natal Bay" was first discovered by Vasco da gama in 1497 and he called it "Rio de Natal" or Christmas Bay as he anchored there on Christmas Day. It was a great, naturally protected harbour and hence, it is now one of the busiest ports on the African continent and a great spot for some fishing!
