Photographer's Note
During the 1990s, car ownership in Morocco was still relatively low and highways, particularly south of Rabat, had little traffic. Driving conditions could be hairy nevertheless. New drivers often seemed to think they were supposed to straddle the center white line (especially scary at night) and non-drivers, human and animal, had little or no fear of traffic. This young shepherd seemed quite confident that we would stop for his sheep. The quality of the shot isn't great (it was taken from the car, using slide film, and is a scan) but I still find it an amazing record of a time that I'm sure is long gone.

- Yes Mary, I remember these portions of freeway with the sheep and the nanny goats which crossed and walls constructed to prevent also people from crossing and at the same time from hide the slums to tourists. Anyway an opportunity for a funny shot to you, well done !

Hello Mary,
A singular scene of daily life next to the city, I guess you had to stop the car to make way for sheep.
Fantastic perspective and great light.
Best wishes,
Charo

Bonsoir Mary
Une belle scéne de vie quotidienne, prise au bon moment avec le petit berger dans cette route qui semble bien calme a ce temps là, belle image tout au naturel

Hi Mary,
Very interesting photo, depicting a funny and dangerous situation that will be recognised by anyone who ever drove in Morocco, even more recently.
I find it very well composed and despite the signs of being a scan of an old film, it has a much acceptable quality. I must say that that I am a bit fascinated by the greenish/brownish appearance of old photos.
I don't think that things changed so much in respect to traffic in Morocco. I was there in 1994 and in 2006 and the main difference is that I didn't see scenes like this one in the new modern tolled highways. Traffic outside cities was still sparse outside cities and a total madness inside them, but that already happened in 1994. As a matter of fact, this is probably the freeway that took me at least 90 minutes to drive, from South Rabat to North Sale in 1994 at the early evening of an August day.
Regards,
José

Hi Mary,
Really nice picture! Different subject with great composition. The kid on the extreme right on the road adds such a nice touch.

Hello Mary
Indeed an amusing scene. The young child and the single sheep in the foreground add to the uniqueness of the photo. Although there are some imperfections in this 14 year old slide this is quality contribution to TE. Tfs, Marlene
