Photographer's Note
Late afternoon sky - colourful and tormented, but the evening ended without rain nor storm.
Taken with my old Yashica SLR in 1972 and scanned from the print. The colours were even more vivid 'au naturel'.

This is a marvellous photo of "mamartus" on the underside of a Cumulonimbus storm cloud. With this sort of sky I am surprised that you did not get any thunderstomrs or heavy rain showers in the vicinity. They are caused by very strong downdraughts in the clouds.

Wow, what an awesome sky. It reminds me of the evening skies in Colorado living along the front range of the Rocky Mountains.
I would do something to highlight the contrast or diminish the intrusion of the foreground myself, it's too close in value and chroma to the clouds, probably a result of the scan, but it's a fine photo just the way it is.

Bonjour Norman.

J"aime beaucoup !

Stunning colours. This is a great pictorial sculpture. I think I would have been tempted to enrich those colours just a bit in PS with levels or color enhance, but perhaps that would be cheating; or would that bring them back to the original 'au naturel' colours?

Wow. That's a magnificent sky. I wanted to give you the smilely face, but the choices don't show up, and I don't know why?
(Sept 1) I was able to add the smilely face today.

Okay, now this one is better;
More defined cloud formations, some warm color from the setting sun, the inclusion of something else in the frame (trees). The image still has a bit of noise and could benefit from a levels adjustment- but not a bad shot.
All the best,
- Dan

Hi Norman,
Looks like an early stage of mammatocumulus to me. Good and rare shot. Nice eveningt light and well composed.
Kind regards,
Michal
