Photographer's Note
Sailing over Niger river it's not easy. You sail with a long wood pushing in the depth of the river, that is not too much depth. I have tried two times to sail the pyrogue, and I can say that it seams easy,...but it's not easy to go in the direction that you wants to go. Our guide makes this with a naturally face expression, and always with an smile in his mouth. - It's easy - he said - you have only to push in the good direction - I can hear him yet, and hear him laughting watching me try to sail the pyrogue.
Also I have to say that is hard to sail, and they have to be feet. Then,...usually when you deal the trip you deal hard,...you wants to have a good price,...At the first time I thought that it was expensive, but after all this sail over Niger river I think that it was too cheap,...if you go there, think about it,...it's a great trip to sail in these waters, something that you will not forget,...if your pocket can pay a little more, do it. You will help this people to have a healthy and more confortable life. It's up to you.

This shot calls back reminds me beautiful souvenirs, it is pity all the same that the sky is a little overexposed, at least congratulations for this beautiful moment...

Great use of the arch of the boat to provide a natural frame for the man, almost giving him a halo. The expression is wonderful too, and that is always so important for people shots. I like that you got some detail in the clouds too, because that adds a really interesting background. Nicely done!

Great photo, I like the POV and composition. The overall tone is great as well. It seems like there is a bit of a halo around the subject, did you do any post-processing? do you see what I am referring to? Great note, thanks for sharing it.

Salut Javis,
Yves.

Great idea to frame the guide this way as it eliminates some of the sky. Well done.

Hello Javier,
A picture which brings back memories of a trip we made just a couple of months before you were there, when we went from Mopti to Djenne by pirogue, upstream and no wind...until suddenly a storm and with improvised sails we raced the final kilometers to our destination.
I just bought my first scanner and the Mali pictures are the first on, mainly because of the shots you uploaded and the memories they brought.
Thanks!
Benny

Hi Javier
The hessian arch of the boat has created a wonderful frame and the water colour adds interest. A happy man.
