Photographer's Note
I have very little to say about this photo from early 1982. I just liked the young woman's bright green dress seen against the dull grey wall of the large mud building.
This was somewhere in the center of Diré, a small town in northern Mali.
Maybe a family member was standing just outside the photo. I have absolutely no memory of this moment. But maybe I was close to where this photo I posted long ago was taken:
https://www.trekearth.com/viewphotos.php?l=7&p=829214
I borrowed the title from an early song by The Beatles.
This was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Hi Gert
Your usual decent scan. The photo would be a bit dull without the woman's colourful outfit.
cheers

Bonjour, cher Gert,
Philippe

Hello Gert,
Besides the one lady dressed beautifully stood upon the corner, we can see the texture of this mud-built edifice.
The scene hints about the way people live in this remote town. Also well chosen this title.
Have a nice friday,
Ike

Hi Gert, Mud and stick architecture always looks good to me and this building is a good'n with the balustrade around the top and the drainage things sticking out from the side. Of course the girl is a great addition, providing a focal point and an idea of who might live inside. Cheers, Steve

Hello Gert,
You saw her standing there, only and lonely.
You create nice depth and perspective with this old mud building.
Nice architectural picture with high quality made, for a very old scanned image.
Very well composition, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Hello Gert,
I find these mud walled houses fascinating.
I would imagine that this building has a roof which is used to sit on, since there are apertures through which one can look. I wonder why these are all so intact and yet those shown by Ian are slowly melting (though they are much older, I suppose).
The textures are well captured.
The 'Lady Standing There' is very well placed and makes an irresistible focal point. She also creates a story scene: why is she there, who is she waiting for, why is she alone ... there are many questions to begin a story!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
I don't know if you are having a problem but TE is running exceedingly slow this morning!

Hi Gert,
The presence of the woman has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing the details of the building and of the clorful dress. The light is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.

Hello Gert, I recognised the song title immediately, good choice.
We see a very interesting building, unlike anything that I have seen before.
The woman is perfectly placed, and her colourful robe really stands out against the grey.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Gert,
The picture shows us well the remarkable mud architecture while the woman indicates the size of the house.
Remarkbable that there aren't any street windows.
I suppose there are windows elsewhere that are likely to face an interior courtyard.
Outsiders should not see too much here.
I've the impression that TE is on its last legs now and that I won'be able to write more critics ...
Best regards, Paul

Gert, these wall and building made in mud have the color of the desert. The street was empty at that time, only a lonely woman was waiting maybe for a family member or a friend at the street corner. This architecture is impressive and unique. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

she looks like an sculpture adorning the place. amazing the beauty, rusticity and simplicity of this architecture in mud. picaso would produce a nice painting using this theme.
curious as the site put another barrier between we and the login.

Hej Gert,
Et meget godt billede med gadehjørnet med de store grå muddervægge, der har et smuk mønster som du fik meget tydeligt med i billedet, ligesom kvinden der står og venter i sin grønne kjole.

Hello Gert, Interesting mud house. It has no windows. I wonder how it could look inside. Probably you had no opportunity to see. Nice view of this woman in a green dress. I have a similar one :).
Have a nice weekend

Hello Gert,
Yes, 'I saw her standing there'....that's why she was turning her head away from you. As doing so, she was like 'posing' for you for a modeling magazine - fashion outfits in the 80's.
I find the dull grey wall ( uneven patched mud ) - interesting. Its suited the place very well and bright dresses the women wearing brought the dull wall or street - more colourful and exciting to see.
Once again , very good scanned photo. It doesn't looks like from a Kodachrome slide.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Gert,
I'm sorry I have taken so long to make any comment on this photograph but, for some reason or another, I have been having a bit of difficulty browsing the pages of TE - something which I believe others including Malgo have also been experiencing. Maybe just the final death rattle of TE? I do hope not.
Anyway, a very fine photograph, quite charming on account of its simplicity and with the richly coloured clothing of the young lady at far right standing out wonderfully against the monotonous putty-coloured walls of the large building beside her. Was she waiting for a companion or had she just stopped momentarily on her walk across town? Who knows?
And she might well have been standing somewhere close to "Boulevarde de l'Independance" where the architecture looks not dissimilar to here (as you show so well in the photo to which you refer in your note). Of course, as you can imagine, I scoured Google maps looking for that street but unfortunately no street names at all appear in maps of Diré and it is somewhere to which the little yellow man has yet to venture.
An interesting and charming photograph and a fine note as always!
Kind Regards,
John.

Dear Gert,
A nothing special with a Beatles title? Sounded inviting for me! And I was not disappointed. Maybe you cannot tell much about this photo, but maybe it doesn't need much explanation.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hi Gert
How could you photograph another, when you saw her standing there! She very well could be 17 too. The colorful dress contrasts well with the drab adobe mud facade of the bg building. Good sharpness and textures. Tfs!

Hello Gert,
This photo has a timeless feeling, as though it was taken well before 1982. The woman, with her colorful dress, is standing in the perfect spot, and I like that's she's looking off to the side. It's a lovely composition. Take good care!

Wow! Brilliant graphic composition, minimalism at its best. I love the contrast between the woman's dress and the stark architecture. I wouldn't call it dull though - those mud structure are strangely appealing, no matter how grey.
I've added it to my favs.

Hi Gert.
It seems incredible how these clay constructions withstand the passage of time, curious and original home, to which the girl in the kaftan see gives a touch of color.
I have been absent for a while, due to a problem with my internet connection, now everything is fine and we return to TE.
Well done. I like it.
You have a good day.
Very best regards
Luis.
