Photographer's Note
Bonjour

Hello Nicolas,
This scene is quite typical for many countries in the developing world. It's a bit amusing, and it's a well taken photo in a nice scan with good b&w tones. But the geography is wrong again. Bamako is in the south, not in the north, and it's very far from Gao.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Nicolas
Overloaded!! but this is normal and so typical in that part of the world. Good grief, how can the rider see anything? I think that this could be a definition of exuberance!! Good reportage shot, Congrats

Bonjour Nicolas,

Bonjour Nicolas, a picture that creates a reaction! How did they manage to pedal the bicycle with all that load?
At least there is a half decent road on which to cycle.
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

Bonsoir Nicolas,
Amicalement, Paul

Ha! Ha! Nicolas, the fact that we cannot see the cyclist emphasises more intensely just how much dry grass is being carried. I presume, from the direction of the feet, that the cycle is moving away from us rather than towards us!
I like the long shadow, too!
An amusing as well as informative shot.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Nicolas, the photo was taken in 1984 but such scenes are still visible nowadays in developing countries. The people don t have transportation vehicle to carry their goods and are using cycles. Petrol is expensive. This one is overloaded with hay dedicated maybe to be sold for the cattle. In that Sahelian country, the hay has value.

Bonjour Nicolas,
Wonderful capture from 35 years ago in B&W format.
I wonder how this guy on the bike managing his way on the road... What he would do if a car comes ahead of him....
Bon-Dimanche,

Hello Nicolas,
A lovely image from the past. I wonder how he loads the bicycle, let alone how he keeps balance once he gets going! 👍🏻👍🏻
