Hello Bert,
This makes me think they look like prisoners of war long ago being subjected to some kind of torture. Reading about the efforts of carrying these procession floats I think torture is not completely beside the point. For someone living in a very secular country like Sweden it's hard to understand the enthusiasm at these ceremonies. But they obviously make for dramatic and eye-catching photos.

Hi Gert, The same went for us, lving in also largely secularized Holland. But dramatic they were, Atonement for sins (the core value of the costaleros) is certainly not taken lightly here. Bert
