Great tyro 2014-07-16 3:14

Bonjour Claude,

Ah! Maintenant, je comprends!

I love old sailing ships and so I just had to look up Wikipedia myself! The original Hermione was built at Rochefort in 1779 but suffered shipwreck in 1793 - but this is an amazing replica which was commenced in 1997 and plans are afoot for it to sail to America next year! Interesting that the replica will have taken 18 years to build while the original one was built in just eleven months!

I love your photograph and the black and white conversion not only gives a very "period" look to it but also brings out all the textures of the sailcloth and the complex rigging. Your workshop picture is excellent too, showing this vessel in colour and in lovely light.

A very fine pair of photographs and a very interesting note about this wonderful reconstruction. And quite different from your usual "Images à la Sauvette"!

Kind Regards,

Cool To tyro: images à la sauvette

But if you look carefuly, you will see a man close to the mast and under the upper veil, so today not street photography but still some human presence.
I was so glad to have someone to give the dimensions of the sails.
thank you for comenting

Default The man....

Bonjour M. Claude Cartier-Bresson Simonin,

Yes, I did see the silhouette of the man high up in the rigging beneath the topsail - so, yes, this is still "une image à la sauvette"!

Kind Regards,
