ciao youssef

very interesting place, what's exactly the meaning of the name of the doors? (Baba Dzira for example, my father was born in Tunis and he talked me about a door called like that),

ciao, giacomo

Default To jimmj63: thank you :)

Thank you for your comment Giacomo

Yes, many of Algiers gates have similar appelations with those of Tunis. Bab Jedid and Bab Dzira (i guess) ! Bab means the gate or the door, Bab Jedid means the new gate (Jedid means new). This appelation is due probably to the foundation of this door which might be more recent to the others. Bab Dzira in Algiers which means the gate of the island (Dzira means island) has been given to the eastern gate which was faced to seven small islands near the city port. These islets no longer exist because turkish conquerors in the XVIth century built a jetty through them to counter all spanish threats on Algiers.
In the case of Tunis, the gate faces the Tunis Island.

Have nice evening Giacomo
Greetings
Youssef
