Interesting colors in the falls, I like the slow shutter speed. Maybe for using slower shutter speeds in the daylight you could adjust the exposure compensation button +/-, use a polarizer or filter, or maybe change the ISO. Despite the trouble with overexposure, this shutter speed worked well and your photo came out nicely. If these don't work there's always photoshop!!
