Hello Paul,
This and the first WS are relatively similar, but I decided I prefer this one because of a deeper view among the walls, with some open space in the central part, better placed arches and a better view of the hilly surroundings. The mosaic is terrific, but it's the kind of photo I agree is best placed in the WS. It is clearly an interesting place, but I usually find it hard to really imagine what a place like this once looked like. I am not able to transform the ruined walls into real buildings with roofs.

To holmertz: Visiting ancient sites
Thank you Gert,
Nor am I able to imagine the houses or the city when I visit such ruins. I don't think anyone really can. Sometimes you see in books or on the internet a fantasized image of what such a building, a palace or a city district must have looked like at the time and then they usually show a spotless place, while contemporary places often have some rubbish somewhere or things that we prefer not to have in our photos. In reality, it can not have looked so tidy ages ago. The general hygiene conditions were probably much worse than what we now see in very poor countries. When visiting ancient sites, I'm mainly interested in general views and in more detailed views, such as the mosaics (they were really beautiful in Heraclea!), statues, bas-reliefs, columns, etc. Best regards, Paul
