Hi Jorge,
I had to jump to this photo.
Cashews are favorite nuts of my daughter. I don't remember eating them when I was a child in Poland but we didn't have many options there in the Communist time.
Over time I learned all sorts of nuts but to be honest it was always a mystery how they grow. Well with the exception of walnuts which were growing nearby.
So for the first tie I have seen a photo of a cashew growing recently. It is really hard to imagine for me how it is being processed.
Great reportage,
M

I attached a video showing as the locals burn the cashew nuts to eat, the industrial process is different, made with boiling water, if I am not wrong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qY_QgSb-pwc take care jorge |

Hi Jorge,
Thanks for that. I watched it. I am still confused a bit. So the red part is edible but the lower part which hides the nut is partially toxic. Is there a possibility that if you don't burn it well enough you can get poisoned? M |

yes, the red part is edible crude. the nut should be roasted before to eat, I presume the poison lost part of its power even with the not completed cycle of fire, the oil of the poison burns like gasoline. I did that some days ago using an old pan, the oil became black and glued in the pan, but I ate the seeds. the case of manioc is similar, it should be exposed to the fire or boiled to evaporate the cyanide it has inside. take care jorge |
