it is always the problem with street (or metro ) photography. Should we ask permission (probably yes)? But then it will be not spontaneous and it is awkward situation when they ask why I am making their photos. Should we say it will be published (one never know it in the moment of shooting)? Usually the people see I am making photos. In Japan there is no problem - they like it and even they thank for the photo. Cheers

I think we have the same feelings about this kind of photography. I try to avoid sneaky shots, I prefer people to be aware of my presence & intentions. I haven't been in Japan yet (), but generally in Asia I have the same experience.
