you took this shot at 400mm...and no tripod? the lens must have been shaking a bit? well, your shot is super sharp and clear, i gotta say its very impressive. and look at the BG too, its just as impressive, the blackness, and the hint of color that's blurred out matches the feathers so well. this is one of your best posts John, easy to see why its been favored twice. nice shot of your little friend

Thank you for your kind words! Yep, I was using my 100 - 400mm zoom which has image stabilisation and, yes, this was hand-held. This little chap is only about 12 cm (5 inches) from end to end, flits about like crazy and never sits still for more than 1/10 second if you're lucky - so the only way to "shoot" him is to use as fast a shutter speed as you can (1/800 sec in this case) and switch the camera to rapid fire (about 5 frames per second) and see what you get. And you'll be damn lucky if 1 in 10 shots is any good! Good fun! You take care, old chap! ![]() Best Wishes, John. |
