Congratulations on your 1000th Australian picture on this site!
You could get pretty close to the emus.
Their plumage is very well adapted to the natural environment.
But their long legs and necks make them rise above the vegetation.
So far I've only once seen emus. That was in the north of Chile. I'm surprised that you could follow them during half a kilometre before they slowed down enough. In Chile I couldn't keep up with them. I'm not sure if those emus are exactly the same kind as the Australian ones.

You definitely wouldn't have seen emus in the wild in Chile - you would have seen their distant relative, the slightly smaller Rhea. cheers Ian |
