Hi Ian
looking at these photos you've posted from this Island, its very rustic, are there any of those white sandy beaches people lay on? just curious. It looks to be the kind of place where many shipwrecks could occur. I just looked it up on GoogleMaps as well, surprised to see its so close to the mainland. wonderful array of blues and aquas in the water. Id love to walk around here. One more question...are there any people living here? and I don't mean 'summer homes' or vacation homes, i mean year round settlers who call it home. cheers

Hi Craig
Yes there are beaches for people to lie on but they are on the northern side of the island where there a a few "resorts". The southern beaches and rocky coastline are more for the sea lions and seals. There is a permanent population - about 5,000 with plenty of agriculture (sheep, grains, vineyards, honey) and unfortunately the extensive national park and other forests suffered badly in the recent fires with huge numbers of koala deaths. The only up market resort (in a wilderness area) also got burnt out. If you ever make it out her and to Kangaroo Island you won't regret it - there is plenty of interest for kids too. cheers Ian |
