Good chartres 2005-05-25 3:01

Hi, Sarah!
It's hard to make a good shot against the sun. I'd say your photo is a fair attempt, but I'd like to comment on the composition.
The left bottom part is empty, it doesn't add to the picture and in fact it makes it unbalanced. Eyes follow the road straight to the middle of the picture and then wander randomly... I think the classic rule of two-thirds is a must for this particular picture.

Default To chartres: empty

Hi there, thanks for yr comments, and in fact: I do get the feeling you are obsessed with left-bottom-parts! ;)
It's empty.. I agree. But that's just the thing I like: it's a nothing saying landscape, except for the mountain in the bg. The ray of sunlight though, makes it shimmer and makes you look (made ME look) to the landscape in a complete other perspective. I've started to admire and love nothing-to-see places. Simplicity and 'less is more'. If I'd crop the bottom, the ray would be cut off, and that would be a shame. If I'd crop the left, the effect of the mountain would disappear...
Anyway, thanks again - for making me think about my work!

cheers S.
