Re: macro lenses
Another vote for the Canon 100mm USM Macro here.
To choose between the two lenses you've listed, you really need to work out what type of things you wish to shoot.
If you can get really close...

Thanks Kev! My vote would be for Landscapes. What odds ;)
Might be worth starting a new thread for this though, not sure how many are reading the replies...

Re: Help to decide buying Aspherical lens
All it means is that the particular lens contains one or more aspherical elements.
Aspherical elements can be more difficult, and...

Re: DxO Mark - new way to compare camera quality
It's very interesting, but unfortunately I don't think it's 100% useful.
As far as I can tell they don't seem to have any measure of how much detail the sensor/system is capable of rendering; i.e....

Re: Compact cameras
I don't think any of the major manufacturers has any particularly bad models; there are some which are better than others, but that's really about it.
I'd tend to avoid the smaller names in...

Re: Monitors/Displays - poll
You'll be in danger of becoming retro-chic soon if you keep that up Greg ;)
21" Artisan? Or something a bit more mundane?
I still remember trying to carry one of the old 21" NEC Multisyncs... I...

Re: Monitors/Displays - poll
Thanks for that Peter. I was vaguely looking at the Dell 2008WFP, but being wide gamut could be a problem, since I tend to use sRGB. It doesn't seem to calibrate well to sRGB according to the...

Monitors/Displays - poll
I'm in the market for a new LCD, as the backlight is starting to get dim on my current one. My primary use is (perhaps predictably) photo editing. I don't play games, and I rarely watch video. I'm...

Re: Canon 40D
My point is that regardless of the results the comparison makes no sense.
If you buy a Ferrari 595, of course it'll go faster than a Ford Focus. If you want a Ferrari, and can afford the Ferrari,...

Re: Canon 40D
That's an unfair comparison.
The D3 is a full-frame camera, whilst the other two are APS-C cameras. The real kicker is the price though, the 40D is £577 whilst the D3 is a stratospheric £2628.

My point is that as soon as Google indexes the images your "protection" doesn't work. I'd hazard that most image thieves come via Google anyway.
About the only thing your "protection" would...

How did you catch it? Well, there's a neat little feature in XP and earlier versions of Windows. It's called Autorun.

The OS version has an optical image stabilizer built-in. At it's simplest that means that if you're handholding, the number of sharp shots you get will be higher if the subject isn't moving.
