Photographer’s Note
Under the well known cliffs of Etretat, the simple enjoyments of holidays, a little girl so intent in her reading, she reminds me of me in those times:), a baby seagull, photographers...for me an image of serenity, of sharing of the space.
Unfortunately, the sea front is rather ugly for such a lovely site, crappy buildings etc. Still the view is simply beautiful, this place inspired some famous impressionist painters like Monet.
The town was initially a modest fishermens village and has "developed" into a fashionable sea resort. It still has some typical buildings in its center. The cliffs made of chalk are about 70 m high, made into natural arches by sea erosion.
Most gulls are ground nesting carnivores, which will take live food or scavenge opportunistically. The live food often includes crabs and small fish. Apart from the kittiwakes, gulls are typically coastal or inland species, rarely venturing far out to sea. The large species take up to four years to attain full adult plumage, but two years is typical for small gulls.
Gulls — the larger species in particular — are resourceful and highly-intelligent birds, demonstrating complex methods of communication and a highly-developed social structure
°°°

Amicalement,

Hola amiga Michele:
An opportune, spontaneous and natural composition with a select well framing aligning in two ends to " the girl and the gull ", I like the scene seems as if the animal was looking at the girl while he reads the book.

hey glad to see you again around here michele.. and you are back with a marvellaous one... this is like a movie scene, one can write many stories looking at it... the girl, the sea gull, the two men behind... actors of the same story... or heroes of different stories shot together by chance... beautiful one indeed michele, missed your photos a lot...
with love,

Bonjour Michele,
Conclusion: medaille d'or et trois sourires.
Amicalement a toi

nice to see you back, michele, we've missed your shots. in this photo I think the starring actor is the seabird, who watches different stories of different people with knowing, yet slightly indifferent eyes. that little girl, who seems to forget everything around her and has buried her nose into the book, is very nice. welcome back, and dont go away again.

hello Michèle,
glad to see you're back and posting :) and for some reason this photo is "very you" - I guess it's the calm of the moment by the sea, I'm starting to think about photos like this as your trade mark.
I think the shot illustrates very well what you write in your note about sharing the same space. there are so many things happening in this photo (yes, the kid reading the book, the photographer, the seagull, the people on the bridge in the distance, the kid by the boats...) that it's a pleasure to simply sit and look. however, the photo does not feel crowded or chaotic, so compliments to you for finding a good composition and selective focus to put all these things together. I particularly like how the strong diagonal line leads the eye through the scene. very nice work, my compliments.
best,
Kristine

Welcome back, Michele. I like this composition including the 4 characters, each in their own world, yet harmoniously sharing the place and the moment. A hommage to the beauty of mundane life.

Hi dear Michele,
I missed that one ! Similar scenes are also in the area where I am living. Close to the Marmara sea, seagulls gets friends of us.
The only problem is their s..t's . It's not easy to remove them from my car !
Here the girl deep in her lecture and the seagull almost watching her. Amazing compo with perfect pov.
TFS and have a nice weekend
Best regards

Hi Michele,
What a charming scene. Delightful colours and perspective... The seagull is a plus here... everything seems to get into a different dimension... And the little girl reading in the far side of the bench...beautiful!!!
The sea, the sea... inspires you to the maximum!
Bravo again!
