Your timing is very good for adding a moving boat to your scene too while vegetating and walking path are leading us to windmill and its dark reflection perfectly. Indeed, the light is not good.
But the sky is amazing, and the composition is excellent.
Perhaps placing yourself slightly on the left would have allowed you to catch the entire reflection of the windmill. But was it possible without falling in the water ?? ;-)I hope I will soon have the opportunity to go back to the Netherlands to take some shots with windmills.

Tu avais fini par nous faire croire qu'il y avait toujours une luminosité exceptionnelle au pays des moulins, tu rétablis enfin la vérité!Cette composition dans les tons gris est très belle et les conditions de lumière peu favorables ne t'ont pas empêché de réussir une superbe photo.

I remember your preceding made photograph the same day. here in spite of the prevalence of the gray sky we see however a light blue. I like the various vapour clouds here which create a good relief with this landscape so typically Dutch. Well done Jaap, cheer.

Ik heb lang gewacht maar hier is de foto dan toch.
En welk een, Jaap het is wel een molen, maar daar hou ik van. Door uw positie is hij deels verdoken, en dat is dan weer wat anders dan gewoonlijk.
De weg zorgt voor perspectief, de plezier boot op het water voor een afsluiter in overvloedige water.
Mooie samenstelling Jaap.

Hoi Jaap,

Ik ben nog nooit naar de Zaanse Schans geweest! Dus beter één foto met slecht weer dan helemaal geen foto van de Zaanse Schans. ;-)
Daarbij vind ik ook wel dat deze foto karakter heeft. De oude Nederlandse meesters hadden ook geen problemen met wolken in het landschap. Dat zette het alleen maar lekker zwaar aan. Kijk maar eens naar deze link van de Cloud Appreciation Society. Ja, dat bestaat echt :-).

Licht is inderdaad niet best, maar die wolken redden je in het algehele beeld. De molen op zijn kont fotografen is iets wat ik ook nog nooit gedaan heb, er is ook weinig keus hier denk ik. Ben er nooit geweest, moet nog wel eens, maar ben bevreesd voor al die toeristen...

Dag, Jaap. Een lucht die tussen grijs en blauw aarzelt, maar met een sterke neiging naar het grijs. Je hebt een goed POV gekozen met een opening in de rieten juist in de lijn van de boot. Er is een mooi perspectief op de molens die achter elkaar staan. Ook de weg leidt ons goed naar het hoofonderwerp. Een goede samenstelling en een licht dat toch niet zo slecht is.

With good compo and appropriate postprocessing, bad weathers may look like heaven on earth. Not always weather is perfect, so shouldn't we take any photos in such days? Nooo... And this is a very nice example for that. Cheers,

Het weer zat niet erg mee hier, maar de donkere regenwolken zorgen niettemin voor een mooie achtergrond bij de molens van de Zaanse Schans. Het gras en riet doen het goed in de voorgrond. Mooi fotowerk, bedankt!

You prove that it is possible to take good photos when the light is not at its best. I think you were helped by the fact there was some detail in the clouds and not just a bland grey sky. The framing by the bushes and reeds works well and leads us to the main subject. Good work

it might be true that the light wasn't ideal and yet having the right composition and the right perspective on the monitor while performing the PP can bring out some astonishing results. Bad light maybe but good for photos Jaap. The grey overall impression mix well with the greenish foreground. IMO a rather good light for such a photo. A well considered compo with the right amount of details engaged.
