Photographer’s Note
Yesterday I went to see my new favorite live band again, I posted a shot from another concert earlier http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Denmark/photo78035.htm. last time i saw them they were at a big open air stage but this time it was a much smaller venue and that seemed to suit them very well - They were great!
Now as I wrote in my note to my previous post they told me to mail any shots I've taken of them playing, and yesterday because the leadsinger, Dave on the pic, was pretty much of a showman I got shy, so in the break I asked him to keep his mouth shut about when I started shooting, guess what, he didn't ;o) I'm such a shy people photographer and here in this small bar where I forced some of my friends to come see "The Band Who Knew Too Much" he made a big fuzz about it, made me take a bow, well we were a regular Laurel and Hardy act - So thanks to this guy I'l never do another people picture :oD
PP, cropped, resized, converted to BnW and worked on the background to make it less disturbing.
Still D70
By the way my favorite song by this band is called "The girl who loved the man who robbed the bank in Santa Fe and got away" great title, right?

This is great, Line - I love the shot and the note made me laugh! Of course you'll get over the experience and continue with your people shots :) We'd like more shots like this one - the pov is excellent and his expression is priceless.

He certainly comes across as a showman crooner here Line; love the arch of the unfolded accordian and the contrast and I'm willing to bet that Sohrab's going to like the darkness :)
The fact that he is a showman should make you courageous-- it means he doesn't mind being shot and will play up to the camera so fire away!

Hi Line, quite a character, your angle is great, and because of the flash, you can see the sweat, and that he's really working hard. What's the weight of such a thing? You did a good job with the background, I like it very much how he's united and just his head, hand, and accordion sticking out. Seeing just the white of his eye, almost makes it a scary picture.
I agree with jennifer, of cause you'll get over it, I'll just wait a bit longer ;-)

Très beau portrait bien mis en valeur par le noir et blanc et par la distance proche. Félicitations Line !
Points demain...

This is eerie... It looks like a disembodied head whose top has been cut off, floating above an accordian with a strange hand disconnected from everything pressing keys. And the man's averted gaze with only the whites of his eyes showing adds to the impression. Are you sure this isn't a scene from Chainsaw Massacre? ;-) I thought I heard a scream, "Let me OUT of here!"
Great PoV, the composition is fine and the capture is clean and crisp, but I'm serious, the lack of definition of his shoulder and hat against the background make this a difficult image to read. You refer to "disturbing" when speaking of the background, so perhaps you did your best to solve some other problems. But I think you created new problems while solving the old, at least to my tired eyes.

A very nice portrait, Line !
Nice sharp B/W and composition and your story, what a life you have, you can also write a book...

Looks scary, I agree with Curtis comments. The microphone even makes his hand look like a giant spider impaled by a huge nail. But I prefer the photo this way with strange shapes appearing out of the blackness.

Great shot. The visible effort on his face is just fantastic. The tension created by the dark background and the B&W conversion is very well done. Very good range of tones from pure white to intense black.

Great portrait Line! The sweat on his neck and face makes this picture very lively (in spite of the Chainsaw Massacre connection that Curtis made, haha!) and the white and black keys and curved "airbag" of the accordion are beautiful. Your description of the concert reminds me of many concerts of a small local band that I visited in the past. Most of the time they performed on very small stages in pubs or youth centres. And their concerts were always big fun with a lot of interaction. Unfortunately the band split up and all that I have now are my precious memories and a lot of CDs...
