Photographer’s Note
When I arrived in Banaue, the small town near these terraces, I thought I had travelled 12 hours up a mountain in an overnight bus (with unbearably cold air conditioning) to a location where picture perfect photography would be out of the question. It was raining, with grey cloudy skies that seemed to be set in. The next day, the weather hadnt improved, so I thought my limited time in this region of Philippines would not transcend well to film (or file), which was quite disheartening.
I arranged to go ahead the following day and still see the '8th wonder of the world', the Bataad Rice Terraces, still with damp weather in the atmosphere, but throughout the day it miraculously cleared up to this - sunny and blue skies. I was overjoyed that I could witness the terreaces in this light afterall, and while I felt I would never get a 'clear' shot like this, well, I did! So the moral is, the weather can change to your advantage at any time, and when you least expected. Especially in high places like this.

Hi David,
Wonderful valley you got here! Haha, I know all about the terrible cold air conditioning in busses over here. Just got back from the Philippines and living in Indonesia. Same cold busses on the long distances ;-).
I was on the island Negros. On which island is the Cagayan valley? Really wonderful! 800 pixels don't give you the appropriate room for something like this, but at least it gives a feel how beautiful it must have been to be there.
Greetings! Dennis
PS: Did you use a polarizer here? Like your volcano ruins as well! A ND grad filter? Wonderful clouds in that one!

More shots in this beautiful place! You are so lucky! Nothing I would change here. Just wanted to give a smiley. I really hope to one day visit the philippines. Though the poverty makes me sad. TFS!

Hello david
a stuning pov you get there. the sharpness and colours are perfect and the picture look like a 3 dimensionnal one. Only the left part is a little too dark.
Best regards

David,
I like a lot your framing of this wonder.
Clever choice to include the mountain, it emphasizes dramtically the landscape.
Very nice,
Regards,
JB.

Hi David,
Great view of this beautiful rice terraces. Excellent control of light as well as in the other similar shots. I like the predominant green in contrast with the blue sky. Very nice job!

Beautiful point of view and amazing landscape. It looks unreal, like a model or something. Mountains look a little soft but still, it is good. Thank you for sharing.

Hi David,
By looking at this stunning photo, I would think that you were lucky with the weather, as one of the many beautiful things here is the clarity. I am sorry that this was an exception. Great pov and colours, it's really a gorgeous view, very well shot, in which the only thing that could be better is that ue shadow on the right.
Congratulations, TFS.
Regards, José.

Seeing a photo of another part of this planet is pretty much like seeing a photo from another world, another universe. Just like this photo David. Who would have thought, over a period of time, people could carve and shape nature to support itself. If I were there, I wouldn't be getting anything better than this. Not only one can see the terraced hillsides but the mountain range that goes into the distance.
