Photographer’s Note
Another shot of Howth and Ireland's Eye, taken from the rocks just north of Portmarnock Beach, at 8.15 am this morning.
My hopes for a spectacular sunrise were sadly dashed by the dark clouds that can be seen in the distance (we're looking to the south-east here). Oh well, it's all part of me trying new things with the camera (new years resolution - get up earlier!). I deliberately underexposed the shot by 1/3 of a stop, then increased saturation & contrast, as well as rotating & cropping the bottom part of the shot.
The bright light you can see towards the left side of the shot is an aeroplane on approach to Dublin Airport.

Hi Peter - the crop, roatation etc worked well, all I can do is criticise nature for not adding warm colours to parts of the sky.

Hi Peter,
at first sight I've thought... he didn't catched the sun, but instead he catched the moon... now I see it's only an aeroplane ;)) You took seriously the New Years promises... also I've made them plenty... maybe too much... and guess what, I can't even remember all of them now ;)))
I like the blue tones here... so this is classified as a night shot, I guess.

I'm glad you explained the light - I thought it was a UFO :D. Well you might have missed out on a red sky but I like this low light shot with all the wonderful tones of dark blue. The lights of Howth in the distance catch the eye nicely without being a distraction.

Hi Peter,
You have discovered the blue hour of the morning...I like the view of the distant town, which adds just the right amount of extra colour to warm the scene. There is quite a romantic ambience here and mystery, with the heavy clouds and silhouetted shore. Well captured, Peter...later.

Hi Peter,
In spite of being a cloudy and gray sunrise, which did not fulfill your expectations, you have obtained a splendid photo and with a cold and mysterious touch. I like the blue tones of the sky and of the sea and the lights of the city in great contrast with this dark landscape of the coast.
