Photographer's Note

Welcome to Anakena Beach, in Easter Island. One of the only two beaches on the island, the biggest and most pleasant. Locals like to come here on their day off.

There are no lifeguards on the island. Only moai to watch over you... which is what they were built for anyway!

The moai represented the ancestors of each tribe. They were supposed to watch out for their heirs, and transmit the mana (which is kind of similar to the Force in Star Wars if you ask me!). This is why most of the moai would face inland, back to the ocean. There is is fact only one moai site that faces the sea.

The moai in Anakena are really well preserved. When they were brought down, they actually fell into the sand that protected them.

MeAT :)

PS The hills in the back are a real Windows background! There are very few trees on Easter Island and the view from up there was a real déjà-vu! hihihi
