Photographer’s Note
This is the statue of Dante Alighieri which stands outside the Basilica di Sante Croce in Florence.
For more information about the life & work of Dante I will point you in the direction of this Wikipedia article.
Dante isn't buried inside this Basilica, but it is the last resting place of Michelangelo and Gailileo, amongst others.
A little cropping from the right side, resizing, sharpening & framing. I underexposed by 2/3 of a stop for this image, to balance against the harsh light.

We can tell by the exposure details how harsh the light must have been, but by your forward thinking you saved the day by using exposure compensation. The detail is all there in the statue, which I find quite amusing because of the eagle's pose. I hope you won't mind me saying I would have prefered the composition more to the right, so the statue had the free space in front of him instead of behind, but you probably had good reason for this.

Hi Peter,
It's very often a discussion what is right on a picture, it's a very good picture, but the part for the ( to left) face is to small and the part after the statue the much. I hope you know a I have in mind.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice day,
John

Hi Peter,
Good setting and splendid image of this statue, with a great definition and many cleanliness, which shows us perfectly all her details.
The statue is very well cut away against the blue sky by a magnificent color, in addition I like the diagonal of the front in background.
Good work.
Regards,
Josep

Hi Peter,
nice "portrait" and nice details. I like how you have managed the exposition. I like the diagonal and the statue standing forward of it. I could say also something about how is the statue positioned, but I've read your answer to Kath ;)) and I belive you did it just as you could do it right at the present moment. Sometimes it happened also to me that I don't remember why I did something... well this is more often than you think ;))
Have a nice day,
Tomi

Hello Peter,
Nicely composed and exposed. The great physicist Werner Heisenberg once observed, "Never underestimate how much pleasure it gives one to here/see what one already knows." Well, it is with Florence, the Santa Croce and of Dante's work that I know quite well, and I am very happy to see this beautiful staue presented in TE. Well done,
Bulent

Hello Peter,
Thank you for your compliments about my photo "Monument Valley Dunes". I like your photo. Dante looks like even more of a "doom and gloomer" from his expression on this statue than his writings. Excellent photo of a great statue of a great historical figure. I would need a 500 gigabyte hard drive to store all my photos if I traveled to Florence.
Regards,
Stan Obert
