Saint André de Double
Petit village du Périgord situé en plein cœur de la forêt de la Double. St André compte 150 habitants. Son activité est essentiellement agricole et forestière. Son église de caractère est bâtie sur un tertre artificiel. Elle date de l’époque romane, mais a été très retouchée au 14ème puis restaurée en 1878. Elle est inscrite à l’inventaire supplémentaire des monuments historiques. En grès de la Double, appelé ici le " grisou ", elle s’éclaire sous les rayons du soleil de nuances diverses selon les heures du jour.
L’ensemble se compose de deux corps, celui de l’ouest, renforcé de contreforts plats (cisaillés à quelques mètres du sol), celui de l’est un peu plus large, renforcé aussi de contreforts plats et, aux angles de contreforts formant retour. La nef et le chœur sont lambrissés sans transition. La façade occidentale présente le portail en tiers point sous un arc de décharge brisé. Le clocher barlong sur la partie occidentale de la nef est coiffé d’un toit à quatre pans.

St André is a small village in the heart of the Double forest in the Perigord with only 150 inhabitants. Its activity is primarily agricultural and forest. Its beautiful church is built with character on an artificial hillock. It dates from the Roman time, but was improved in 14th century, then restored in 1878. It is registered with the additional inventory of the historic buildings. It is built out of the stone of ‘La Double’, ‘Grès’ is a sand stone that reflects the sun rays with different color at each hour of the day. The building is composed of two bodies, the west part is a reinforced flat buttresses (sheared with a few meters of the ground), that of the east is a little broader, also reinforced flat buttresses and, with the angles of buttresses forming a ‘return’. The ‘nave’ and the ‘chorus’ are paneled without transition. The Western frontage presents the gate in third not under a relieving arch broken. The bell-tower on the Western part of the nave is capped with a traditional Perigordian style roof with four sides.

Amazingly this Church has some much charm and natural beautiful in an area of so few people. This must be a sign of a wealthy past.
