Photographer's Note

One of the many things I like about Sao Paulo (my ‘adoptive’ city in the last years) are its street markets and fairs.

Every week-end you can see those markets filling the streets with people, lively colors… aromas… noises… music.

Some time ago while walking in the district of Villa Madalena I saw that girl dancing, not caring about what was going on around her… completely concentrated on what she was doing… It was only the music and her graceful dancing. She was just enjoying what she was doing.

Regarding Villa Madalena, it has a bohemian, easy-going atmosphere, somehow different from what you find in the rest of Sao Paulo… lots of cafés, bars, restaurants, art-shops, galleries, bookstores…

In the case of this photo, I decided to give it a different ‘look’ by softening the image with successive passes of a very light gaussian blur. The idea was creating a more subtle, intimate mood, and strong colors, contrast or sharpness would have been against that.

Hope you like and your critiques and comments are most welcomed!

Raw Capture at ISO 200 – f3.5 – 1/500s @ 200 mm.
Post processing: only raw conversion to tif, and then contrast (curves), gaussian blur, USM and save for the web
