Photographer's Note

Another image from my Loughborough fair series and the little sub series around the 'Extreme' ride - as you can see when this rocks it rocks - I knew what I wanted to achieve with this pic but it took a number of experiments to actually get it - I've eventually taken an over-exposed image and re-saturated it in order to bring something more like the true colours in - it looks like a really intimidating and completely wild ride from the outside when it gets up to speed with things moving in all directions as you can see from the traces across the image - the people in it seem so small and fragile against all the lights and machinery.

I found a spot from which to take this shot on the first day but didn't get this one until the following night - I was concentrating on trying to capture one of the 'cars' and the people in it but it was so difficult to work out what was coming from where and next - there didn't appear to be a regular cycle - just random movement - but I did work out that once one car came at this angle another would follow it at only a slightly different angle before the movement pattern changed. You can see how fast the whole thing is moving - I don't know if I've ever set out to take a more difficult image really.......and as I just said to Francine it would have been perfectly possible for someone just to pop along with a camera and click first time!

The sound of the music here was very loud - so just imagine the total effect on these people. Did you notice the guy in the car in front below the two women? It's amazing to think how alien this whole experience or even this image would be to so many people around the world. You do WHAT!!!?
