Vuurtoren Eierland

Another picture from the island of Texel, but no picturesque church this time, but the lighthouse of Texel on the most northerly point of the island.

The lighthouse is called Eierland, was built in 1863-1864 and designed by Q. Harder. The tower is 34.7 meter high. The tower is surrounded by the North Sea in the west, the Wadden Sea in the east and het Eierlandse Gat in the north. On the other side of het Eierlandse Gat you can see the island of Vlieland.
The people of Texel decided in the 1860'ies to build the tower because of the large amount of ships that ran aground off the coast of Texel (72 in the period 1848-1860).
In 1927, the tower was electrified and in April 1945, the lighthouse was under heavy fire, so after the war the lighthouse had to be renovated and started working again in 1950. In 1982 the lighthouse became a monument.
The tower has a white light with a strength of 2,850,000 cd and is located near Texel's youngest village, De Cocksdorp.

I cropped this picture a bit and increased the colours.
Hope you like it!

Yep Lars we do like it. The bright red works great against the blue sky and the green grass.

Well done again

Hallo Lars.

Hi Lars, Another excellent shot from you. This photo provides a very impressive color, contrast, and clarity. I like your POV and DOF.
It looks that there are some high-tech gadgets equipped on the top of the lighthouse.
Well done.

Hi Lars,
groet Rob

Nice compo with beautiful colors and contrasts! The yellow flowers in the foreground are a nice detail.
Goed werk!

great composition and also the red is very bold here, great centre placing to, well done

Well composed, whith this coming roof and erected light house.
Colors are excellent but the most important here is how you manage in giving just the top and the lighthouse from the foreground.
I like it very much.
Jean Michel

That's funny I just critiqued your buddy Steft's previous shot with an equally rich red building in his. I like the "over the hill" perspective here. I think your sharpness is spot-on here. With that lighting you had you caught an impressive sheen off the lighthouse. Nice work and as always thanks for sharing with us Lars!

Very good low PoV, Lars. Showing only the roofs of the houses you put more dominant red color against the blue sky. I perceive some noise in the sky and tried a WS.

Interessante note!

Hi Lars,
Excellent composition with very vivid colours. That red of the lighthouse is great! The roof of the houses complete your composition perfectly. Very nice work!

Regards John

M v h,
Magnus

Hi Lars!
Crisp and colorful image of this lightshot (abd a very complete note, too). With my camera this point of red is simply impossible to rend.
For my taste perhaps a little shift to the right of the pov was better: even if the presence of the two roofs balance the lightshot, it's too centered for me ;D).. only a matter of personal preference!
ciao, giorgio

Bonjour Lars

Hello Lars
An interesting image of a very original lighthouse which can be visible by far; it would be interesting to photograph it lit in the twilight. I allow myself to advise you to try to less center your subjects.

This is also a nice one, Lars; I like the contrast between the colours and the low perspective; although it seem to me a bit out of focus, it is a very strong composition, I liked it!

Jacques

Hej Lars, although I love more windmills, I'm very attracted by lighthouses as well. I love its red color - it gives a big impact and it shell be that way, so it can be seen from many miles on the sea. I'm kind of curious about the way it looked back in 1860 - not so modern and redish, I would say...
Good shot with a sucessful simple composition. Love the contrast of colors with the blue sky.
Tfs,
Hilsen,
Ricardo

I like the bright red of this lighttower, well silhouetted on the blue sky. But the house nearby is plain ordinary, except for the very angular roof. A little noise in the sky apparently.

All the best,

Emmanuel
