Photographer's Note

Basilica of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pultusk.

The three-nave church was built in the 15th century and rebuilt in the 16th century in the Renaissance style by the Italian architect Jan Baptist of Venice living in Poland. He built many churches and chapels in Mazovia. For the church in Pułtusk the architect built a vault covered with polychrome.

The vault (over 1000 square meters) consists of several hundred fields with pictures: portraits, flowers, rosettes. Each of the fields is framed by stucco with a thickness of 7 cm.
In 1613 the fire destroyed the church, after the fire the vault was painted and polychromy disappeared for more than 3 centuries. During the renovation in 1994, it was found again under the thick layer of paint.
In WS you can see two photos: basilica and free standing bell tower.
