House along the area of Damme
In the 1970s, Damse Vaart was rediscovered as a recreational axis with great scenic value. The provincial government, which manages the Damse Vaart since 1819, establishes Damse Vaart as a recreation area for the public by decision of the Standing Deputy on 23/12/1971. The shores are freed for recreational use and, if necessary, the hay paths are hardened or restored. Currently, tourist tours between Damme and Bruges with the "Lamme Goedzak", a big boat radar boat, as a copy of the 19th century propeller boat. The canal, which belongs to the purest and most viscous watercourses of Flanders, is also known as fishing and skating water. The canal landscape formed by Damse Vaart, the Schipdonk and Leopold canal is declared one of the six most beautiful landscapes of West Flanders in the context of the 1976 year
