Photographer’s Note
In Luxor's market on New Year's Day, I finally stepped out of my comfort zone of inanimate objects and took a picture of this produce seller. He didn't seem to mind. Of course, I didn't really have give myself much time to compose the shot, it was one of those "snap and go" moments. I don't like how he's centered, he seems a little too high.
Sharpened, cloned out some garbage on the street, and adjusted levels a little. I'm not sure I quite like how the colors came out, workshops are welcomed.

A great shot of this trader and his produce. The colours are bold and the shot is clear and sharp. Very nice.

Muy buena composicion, lindos colores y muy buen foco.
La unica pequeña critica negativa y es muy personal, el vendedor esta localizado en el centro de la foto y mirando la camara. Well done.

Excellent capture even though you think it is just a "grab shot." Unplanned and off the cuff shots do work sometimes and I think the subject matter and the lighting were really in your favor. The warm color is a direct result of the time of day you took the image. The color of the fruit and vegi's looks right on. As to the position of the main subject - it is bit centered but in my opinion it works but you might want to consider a crop from the left and remove the plastic packing crates. This crop would also move the main subject over to the left 1/3rd of the image for a slighly stonger composition.
Well done!

I quite like the photo, although I agree that bringing the person a bit down would improve the coposition.
Normally, I'd also like the face to be somewhere near the "golden cut", but here, the triangular arrangement of the fruits is quite attarctive!
I took a somewhat similar shot in Tunisia http://www.travelphoto.net/photos/english/tunisia/E20.HTM , although it is not quite as colourful.

PS: missed you by a few hours! I left Luxor on 30-Dec-2004...

Very nice different details and colours in a good light, the scene is really Egyptian, very well seen and done, Ian !

Ian,
Fruit sellers seldom place themselves in an optimal position for photografers, but you have to give them credit for arranging all the nice colours that you have caught so well in this picture.
Nice picture either way.

HI Ian,
A nice market photo that benefits from excellent light and has plenty of vivid colors to offer, I like the strong expression of the man too, as well as Magnus cropping.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

No doubt, I immediatly like this shot for the warm tone and the vegetables jumping out as a framing around this man, well seen and I like that he is in the middle static like a statue.
