Photographer’s Note
At the east edge of the Park des Bastions, in a dramatic location propping up the Old Town, is the gigantic Wall of Reformers, a 100m-long wall erected in 1917 and dominated by forbidding, 5m-high statues of the four major Genevan reformers:
Guillaume Farel, first to preach the Reformation in Geneva;
Jean Calvin, leader of the Reform movement and spiritual father of the city;
Théodore de Bèze, successor to Calvin;
and John Knox, friend of Calvin and founder of Scottish Presbyterianism.
Behind runs the motto of the city and the Reformation, Post Tenebras Lux (“After the Darkness, Light”). Various figures and bas-reliefs show scenes from Protestant history: just to the right of the main statues is Roger Williams, a Calvinist Puritan who sailed on the Mayflower and founded the city of Providence, Rhode Island. The English Parliament’s 1689 Bill of Rights – which established a constitutional monarchy under the Protestant king William of Orange, and barred Catholics from the throne – is also depicted, but Luther and Zwingli, whom Calvin came to disagree with, are relegated to blocks carved with their surnames flanking the wall.
ps: oupss..I cropped Calvin's head... guess Paradise is lost for me..

A good capture Gal!The little boy makes this image living.Maybe it would have been even better if the head of Mr Calvin(?) was complete on the foto?

Well, Gal, you'll probably at least have company of John Milton. And I have always thought that the most interesting people are not in paradise, but in hell ;-).
Funny perspective with that little guy looking up to those historical 'heroes'. Although Calvin caused a 'few' problems with people who were raised in his believe.

Hello Gal,
Dommage pour la tête de Calvin... l'emploi du N&B donne un côté encore plus austère à ces quatre personnages!
Amicalement, Brigitte

I see that some of your last efforts were taking us to see your town through this little boy's eyes : perhaps the other Calvin in this shot. There are two Calvins, the one from Calvin & Hobbesis not the severe bearded one but the small guy that takes us through different situations, Hobbes's the bigger striped folk. He might be the one that also shot the image ;)...
Nicely done, I just don't mind cropping the stone Calvin's head or not, it's undeserved nitpicking as I view it, since the important thing is the relationship between the statues and the boy, I look at it as the statue doesn't fit into the frame not the reverse situation -too bad for him he was so stiff minded alive and stiff bodied when carved- ...
Statues are carved but their time has passed (fortunately), the boy will simply take a look, wonder who those funny dressed people are, and go mind his own future, strolling with Hobbes aside...

AAAAHHHH!

this picture made me smile (and the title), and I wonder what the kid was thinking in front of these statues. I see that you often made a photo from different point of view, and the kid there really made this photo remarkable (though the calvin's head cropped :D). very inspiring
