Photographer's Note
Away from the very busy main roads and up from the river you get the winding labyrinth of small narrow backstreets, some are quite quiet, like this one.

Hello Wanda,
I was in Varanasi 37 years ago. It gives me a sense of safety to see that some places never change ;-)
There are lots of interesting and very typical details here, such as the little gods on the corner and their gifts of flowers, the heavy sacks on the bicycles, the man making garlands. This will look the same also in the year 2046.

Gert

Hello miss WvdH!
It would be a cliché to refer to colourful India, as it usually describe the saris and turbans that have a tendency to steal the show.
But here, even the walls have adopted their own array of pastel colours to push the reputation forward. Okay, maybe the tarpaulin isn't a permanent fixture, but you've got candy pink, baby blue, foam green and canari yellow in a single frame, which offers an idea about how extended and important is the notion of colour in this country.
I like the perspective that leads us into your image, the clogged backstreets, the script on the wall and of course, the garland maker.
Genuine India corner to corner.
Namaste Wanda!
André

Hi Wanda
When I saw your shot, I knew that is Varanasi. This township I will recognize, it has something special, you see it and you know. Interestingly this alley looks clean. Thanks to the flower peddler the picture is lively. Fine composition, nice light management and great DOF. Well done
Best regards

yes I absolutely agree with the colors of your shot.
Looks like a Epson test frame for their printers.
1600 ISO with an "old generation" sensor mushes a bit the details of your photo, at f/16, 1/400 you had plenty of room for instance to reduce to f/8 (stick to that aperture, usually the best optical rendition), 1/250 and ISO 200 and a baby butt noise free color. That's where the only flaws of your photo lay.
other than that, even the composition based on perpective is magic. very good shot.

What I like about this image is the ambiance which comes out..this of course can be anywhere from India, with the narrow lane etc...perspective is well created with the cycles laden with bags of flowers and the guy stringing a necklace. The small touch of the idols of Gods at the corner is also very well included! But I wanted to ask...why ISO 1600 for a day shot, even though it appears to be a bit cloudy?
Best Regards

Hi Wanda:
The colors alone would make one look up but you've nicely built up this picture, with plenty of depth, and just enough of the left leaning street to give it the full 3-D treatment. Nice one!
