Photographer’s Note
Coming back to my series of pictures taken during our trip to Galicia last July.
This photo was taken from the window of my room at the Parador where we stayed overnight in the small town of Baiona, it was a rainy evening very common in these places in Galicia, Spain. Taking the advantage of a small spot of sunlight in the garden I decided to take this shot for a good contrast with the dramatic clouds in the sky and the dark Vigo Bay in the background
Baiona (Galician: Baiona; Spanish: Bayona) is a municipality in Galicia, Spain, in the province of Pontevedra. Baiona is a tourist town with a medieval historical center situated by the outlet of the Vigo Bay. Its population of just over 11,000 rises to around 45,000 in the summer, if one includes tourists. Other than tourism the major economic activities revolve around fishing. It was founded in 140 BC by Diomedes of Aetolia. Throughout its history it has had several names
On March 1, 1493, the Pinta, one of the ships from Columbus' voyage to discover the New World returned to Europe and arrived in Baiona, making the town's port the first to receive news of the discovery of America. A replica of the ship can be visited, and the event is celebrated every year.

Hola, mi amigo Emile,
como asiduo a los Paradores en España, el de Baiona lo tengo pendiente para cuando visite Galicia.
Y tu foto no hace más que confirmar la calidad de estos alojamientos, siempre en lugares históricos o con vistas impresionantes, como éste.
Me gusta mucho el fuerte contraste entre el fondo de la foto, que parece en B/N, con un cielo de tormenta que da miedo, y el primer plano iluminado por el sol, haciendo brillar los tonos verdes del césped. La terraza del Parador se ve magnífica, y evidentemente, la vista desde vuestra habitación es espectacular.
Tu foto es muy bonita, ¿te has fijado que captaste una gaviota volando en la esquina superior derecha? pues este detalle le da un toque vital y de libertad.

I love the combination of stormy sky and sunlight. It adds to the drama and beauty of the scene. Well composed image with good use of the diagonal wall at the edge of the lawn.

Hola Emile,
Ya se que tuviste muy mala suerte con el tiempo, pero en el mes de julio fue un mes muy malo, agosto ha venido mejor. Aún así, la foto te quedó preciosa con la terraza del parador iluminada por el sol y el fondo con ese intenso cielo oscuro. Hace un par de años fue la última vez que estuve en ese mismo lugar, la mañana la pasamos en Portugal y por la tarde fuimos hasta Baiona, el día era de un sol espléndido y caluroso, al llegar justo ahí bajó la niebla y apenas pude hacer alguna foto. En Galicia el tiempo es imprevisible y cambia radicalmente en pocos km.

Veo tu reciente viaje a tierras españolas te ha dado regalos como éste. La vista es desde luego muy bonita y ese cielo amenazador pero entreabierto que permite el paso de luz resulta espectacular.

What a spectacular sky, and yet the sunlight has filtered through in places, especially the foreground, lighting up the scene selectively. The composition is very very good, in this image shot a month ago in Spain. On 20-21 August I was in Barcelona, ready to disembark from the Crystal Serenity. When I look outside now; the landscape is different but the sky is the same. Autumn has arrived in Holland just at the moment the meteorological autumn begins. I must admit that your view is more appealing than mine.

Une photo que j'aime bien avec cet effet de mi-couleur, mi N/B et beau contraste entre la terre et le ciel. Pas de chance pour la température mais c'était la même chose chez-nous avec pire mois de juillet depuis 50 ans. Bonne composition avec la diagonale et excellente perspective.

Long time! Hope you're doing well my friend. Dark clouds and sunlight, nothing can create such enticing photographs as these two extremes when they combine well. This is one such example, where the diagonal composition creates good depth, the green grass bathed by the sunlight looks radiant and fine contrast with the dark sky, which is about to break down. Excellent shot!
