Photographer's Note

Villa de Leyva on a weekday

Some visitors enjoy the lively atmosphere during the weekend when many residents of Bogotá visit Villa de Leyva. Others prefer the calm during the week.

As I have suggested in the note at my previous picture:
stay two days and choose for a Friday and Saturday or for a Sunday and Monday.

The Plaza Mayor is the heart of the town where everyone always returns. With a surface area of 14.000 square meters this plaza is the largest in Colombia and also believed to be the largest entirely cobbled square throughout South America.

Villa de Leyva has been founded in 1572 and it has undergone little development in the last 400 years.
The town has preserved much of its original colonial architecture. Its streets and the Plaza Mayor are still paved with cobblestones.

Two more pictures in the workshop.
