Photographer's Note

The Mother Church of Our Lady of the Pena began to be built in 1730.

On the main altar is an image of Saint Francis of Assisi from the 16th century, the oldest in Brazil. The image belonged to the Church of Outeiro da Glória, the first one built in the country, from which only the foundations remain. The deterioration of the church forced the transfer of the image to the Mother Church of Our Lady of Pena in 1733.
