Photographer’s Note

Here another view of the same church I show yesterday.

In this note I'll tell more about the Our Lady of Good Death (Boa Morte in portuguese):

The cult of Our Lady of Good Death is a tradition of the Catholic Church. In 1661, in Lombo do Atouquia, parish of Calheta, Portugal, was already a chapel of Our Lady of Good Death, founded by Francisco Couto. The cult came to Brazil by the Portuguese.

The image of Our Lady of Good Death can be seen in Salvador, Bahia, in the church of Glory and Health. But is in the town of Cachoeira in Recôncavo of Bahia that hold the biggest celebrations held every year by the Sisterhood of Good Death. It has such characteristics:

1) It incorporates elements of culture african-Brazilian (very commo in some old church built by the african slaves)
2) Has over two hundred years,
3) It admits only women over forty years of age,
4) They are mostly adherents of Candomblé.
5) In Santos city (Sao Paulo) has a Confraternity of Our Lady of Good Death, located in the Convent of Our Lady of Carmo and Carmelites.

However, one should not confuse the title "Our Lady of Good Death, one of the attributes of the Virgin with the syncretic cult of Good Death which image is a skeleton which has roots in the beliefs of the indigenous native people of Mexico.

The title Lady of Good Death is linked with the end of "Ave Maria": "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death." I belive this is like a passport to the Fathers House, so that why the death is good.
